- Financial Assistance
If you are a resident of Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia at any stage of your pregnancy, you may get help from the DC Abortion Fund. They may also be able to help you if you are traveling to the Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia for your abortion.
Call the DC Abortion Fund and leave a message slowly stating your name, your full phone number including area code, and the number of weeks you are pregnant, the date of your appointment, and whether or not it is ok for them to leave you a
voicemail. Someone from the Fund will call you back within 24 hours. They may use a blocked number, so make sure that your phone will accept blocked and unknown numbers.
About DC Abortion Fund
The DC Abortion Fund started in 1995 when a social worker began raising money for a rape survivor to get an abortion. After she raised the money she needed, she had some money left over, so she saved it for the next time a pregnant person would need support.
For 26 years, DCAF has been led and staffed entirely by volunteers, and continues to make grants to people in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion. DCAF welcomed their first paid staff in 2022.
DC Abortion Fund's Community
In fiscal year 2021, the DC Abortion Fund provided over 3,426 grants for people seeking abortions and the demand for DCAF funding has only increased since the Dobbs decision. DCAF case managers work directly with area clinics and funds around the country to provide small grants that fill the gap between what patients can afford and the full cost of their procedure. To date, we have never turned away a single person who was eligible for DCAF funding.
