About DC Abortion Fund
The DC Abortion Fund was founded in 1995 through a deep economic need. When a DC-local rape survivor lacked the funds to pay for abortion care, a close friend rallied the community. When they met their fundraising goal (and then some), they used remaining funds to continue to break down barriers for abortion seekers in the area. Almost 30 years later, DCAF is one of the largest abortion funds in the country, and they support callers of all backgrounds, income levels, and gestational ages. With the support of a single-digit staff, a tenacious board of directors, dozens of volunteers, and a progressive community, DCAF is proud to serve as a vital resource and mobilizing force for the local and national movements for abortion access.
DC Abortion Fund's Community
In 2022, the DC Abortion Fund helped 7,065 abortion seekers, and pledged $2.3 million to abortion care. The need for funding from DCAF increased 173% after the Dobbs decision, and in 2023, they worked with callers from 41 states and Washington, D.C. The Fund expects this demand to grow even more as attacks on abortion access become more ruthless, but to date, DCAF has still never turned a caller away due to lack of funding.
