Supporting people in Virginia.
Instructions
First, schedule an appointment with a provider in your area. Click here to view a list of some of the clinics we work with. You can go to PlanCPills.org and select a state to view a list of telehealth services. Find out how much the abortion will cost and determine the amount you can contribute. Don’t forget to ask the clinic if a discount is available.
When you call, call our helpline at 540-553-8152 and be prepared to leave a message with:
- Say and spell your name
- Phone number
- Zip code
- How far along you are in the pregnancy (calculate)
- Date of your appointment
- Clinic name and location (if it’s at Planned Parenthood, specify which one!)
- Whether it is safe to leave a voicemail or text message
A volunteer will return your call in 48 hrs if your appointment occurs within seven days. We prioritize appointments by date. Funding is limited, so we encourage you to call as early in the week as possible before your appointment.
About New River Abortion Access Fund
New River Abortion Access Fund builds power and provides direct financial and practical support for abortion care in Virginia with an emphasis in Southwest Virginia and Appalachia, while simultaneously working to dismantle the interconnected systems of oppression that create a need for abortion funding in the first place. We are dedicated to ensuring that all pregnant people have access to affordable, compassionate abortion care regardless of income level, race, gender, location, ability, or immigration status. Without access to funding, many of us do not have a real choice.
We envision a world where:
- All people have the economic, social, and political power, resources, and autonomy, and to make dignified decisions about their bodies, sexualities, reproduction, health, and their lives.
- Everyone has access to safe, legal, compassionate, and affordable abortion care if they want or need it, without stigma or shame.
- Every reproductive decision takes place in thriving communities that are safe, affordable, and nonviolent.
New River Abortion Access Fund's Community
In early 2019, three Blacksburg locals launched the New River Abortion Access Fund. We currently fund multiple abortions each week. Although many of our volunteers are college students, we want to prioritize the leadership and experiences of local Southwest Virginians and Appalachians from communities most impacted by abortion barriers, including working-class/poor and rural women, women of color, LGBTQ and gender non-conforming folks.
