About Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project
The Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project (RRFP) was started in 2004 with a $20 donation from a grateful passerby outside an abortion clinic who gave the money to volunteers in appreciation of their work escorting patients safely past clinic protesters. These volunteers had seen pregnant folks who had to leave the clinic because they couldnt afford abortion services, and decided that the strangers $20 should be used to help them. They began organizing and fundraising to provide support access to reproductive health for all folks, regardless of income. RRFP is a member of the National Network of Abortion Funds and is a 501c3 non-profit.
Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project's Community
From its $20 beginning, now the RRFP assists over 250 women and other pregnant folks a year to access their abortion procedures, from direct funding to organizing other logistical support.
The RRFP also educates individuals and the community about reproductive rights, sexual health and reproductive justice, and supports work that creates safer environments for persons of all genders, races, sexual orientations, and folks of other currently and/or historically oppressed identities to receive reproductive health services, resources, and education suited to their needs.
