Mifepristone is Safe: Get the Facts
Mifepristone can be used in a variety of settings to end a pregnancy or manage a miscarriage. Whether you get the medication in person, via telehealth, or self-manage your abortion, mifepristone is safe.
Let’s be extra clear:
Anti-abortion extremists are attacking mifepristone with junk studies, scare tactics, and political rhetoric. These attacks aren’t based in science or medicine. They are about controlling people’s decisions about their lives.
People should always be able to choose which abortion method they use. This will not change even when laws make it harder to do so. NNAF and abortion funds will keep fighting barriers and stigmas around abortion and abortion access.
Access to Mifepristone is Vital
Limiting or banning access to mifepristone would have devastating consequences. Over 60% of abortions in the U.S. are medication abortions. This means restricting access to mifepristone would further limit people’s ability to get the abortions they want and need
Just like any abortion restriction or ban, the people most harmed by medication abortion restrictions, including telehealth, are those most likely to call abortion funds: Poor and working-class, uninsured and underinsured, Black and Brown, queer and trans, and disabled community members.
All abortion bans are racist, classist, ableist, misogynistic, transphobic, oppressive, and unjust.
There’s no legitimate basis for this hearing. Anti-abortion senators have tried to disguise their actions as concern for people’s safety, but that’s a sham. It’s clear that the anti-abortion movement wants to ban abortion entirely. Undermining access to and spreading misinformation about mifepristone are steps toward that goal.
We won’t let them play politics with people’s lives.
